In addition to being involved in a number of building industry organizations, for the past 35 years Tom Winn has served as Chairman of the Board of New Alternatives, a large non-profit serving approximately 2,500 abused and neglected children in Southern California. He has served on similar boards in the Sacramento region. In 1990 he established the Thomas P. Winn Foundation, which has contributed millions of dollars to worthy non-profit causes throughout the Sacramento region. Winn Communities continues to help fund and is actively involved in a number of community and business organizations.

WinN Center at Consumnes River College
Opened in 2013, the Winn Center (named after brothers Thomas, Michael, and Peter Winn) acts as the school's Construction & Architecture Center. It is emblematic of the Winn Foundation's commitment to the local community, workforce, and education system.
